Research by the World Bank Organization International Finance Corporation (IFC) found that COVID-19 has led to the unemployment of 37% of country residents working in micro, small, and medium-sized businesses. These micro, small, and medium-sized businesses account for about 20% of Bangladesh's GDP. According to the ILO, the younger generation is particularly at danger as a result of the coronavirus outbreak. The unemployment rate for people aged 15 to 24 is 24.8%. Due to Corona, the unemployment rate for young people has doubled. In Bangladesh, Corona caused 1.675 thousand youngsters to lose their jobs, according to the ILO. Women have made gains in urban areas, but in rural areas, they have lagged behind. Women who are disabled or widowed are viewed as a burden in the family. These illiterate masses can be developed into human resources with enough training.
Understanding, Encounter and Reaction to Sexual Harassment Among the Adolescent Girls' Students: A Mixed-Method Study
Funding by: Ministry of Planning, Bangladesh; Duration: 24 Months;
In South Asia, the public bullying of girls and women by boys and men is common. Boys intercept girls on public transport, in the street, at educational institutes, and at workplaces. They shout obscenities at them, laugh at them, force them to talk, verbally abuse them, threaten them with abduction, and even touch them inappropriately. In this sub-continent’s culture, "eve-teasing" has been represented as a medium of communication between men and women. In films (both Hindi and Bengali), for example, the villain or other hero is involved in the flirtatious beginnings of a courtship, and moderate sexual harassment is often treated as being fun and romantic. This is particularly problematic because of the role of this type of film—the most popular entertainment for young people in the entire Indian sub-continent—in shaping social learning, particularly for boys regarding their interaction with girls.
Due to the lack of adequate healthy entertainment in the country, many of the rising teenagers find entertainment in illicit ways. For example, pornography, various images of indecent taste, or any other medium. And because they are not able to make a clear distinction between these virtual worlds and the real world, teenagers of this age try to apply them to different levels in their surroundings. Today, teenagers are often sexually harassed by teachers in addition to classmates.
